Sir John Tarbat Junior Athletics from today
The 43rd Sir John Tarbat Junior Athletics Championships conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Athletics Association (SLSAA) and sponsored by Nestle Lanka Ltd. for over 15 years is scheduled to be held from today at the Mahaweli Stadium in Embilipitiya.The four day championship will see events being conducted for athletes in the age group of Under 12, 13, 14 and 15 for boys and girls. This was revealed by Upali Amaratunga, President of the SLSAA at a press briefing held at the CR and FC auditorium recently.The championship will see the participation of nearly 3500 athletes from both categories comprising of 1852 boys and 1543 in the girls category from 306 schools around the island.Last year the championship was held in Kandy where Maris Stella Negombo and St.Joseph’s Balika Kegalle emerged champions in the boys and girl’s categories respectively.The chief guest at the opening ceremony, which is scheduled to be at 8.00 a.m. today, will be Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Minister of Science and Technology.
